Who We Are

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the success of children and youth with exceptionalities. CEC provides resources, advocacy, and professional development to support special educators, administrators, and related service professionals worldwide.

Our Wisconsin Unit is part of this international network, serving educators and professionals in Wisconsin. We connect with members locally to share best practices, engage in professional learning, and advocate for students with disabilities and/or gifts and talents in our communities.

CEC's MISSION

Cultivating, supporting, and empowering education professionals who work with individuals with disabilities by:

  • Advocating for education professionals and for individuals with disabilities, and/or gifts and talents
  • Advancing professional practice and scholarly research
  • Promoting diversity, equity, inclusivity, and accessibility
  • Building networks, partnerships, and communities

Our Founding & History

CEC was organized by a group of educators attending the summer session at Teachers College, Columbia University, on August 10, 1922

 

WI CEC was then established on May 18, 1970
