The WI State Legislature operates on a biennial schedule. That means the session is for 2-years, running from early January in odd-numbered years through early January, two years later and is written as 2025-2026 session. The session typically ends in mid-March in the even-numbered second year, such as mid-March 2026.

- Be polite, state you are a constituent (the staffer may ask for your address), be succinct and state why you are contacting, ask for a response from the legislator, and thank the person.
- Include a personal story about the topic you are calling or writing about.
- You may also be invite the legislator to your class, school, or community to speak to you and others in person.
- If you call and get a voicemail, leave your message in a brief voicemail.
